Family Business Coach Training

Are you CALLED to empower the lives of families through economic and social development? Say what? I thought this was just another coaching program. No!

I'm looking to work with you if one word summaries your work inside the home, at your job, in business, in the community, or all of the above...that word is:

EMPOWERMENT

Let me also put your mind at ease upfront:
  • I am not a network marketing company
  • I don't enroll you or others into any particular business
  • My background includes being an attorney, small business development consultant, teacher, advisor, board and commission member and more...
In one sentence, we (that's your family, mine and the other families we link arms with) want to:

Daphne Mallory's Family Business To-Dos for 12/26/2014

I don't scout "Day after Christmas" deals for household goods and clothes. I take care of that throughout the year. I do look for deals on mobile technology and office supplies that will help me grow my business. I also look for technology and supplies that I can use in my homeschool.

Share your deals.

My Simple Office Goal for the New Year

I have 7 "strikes" against me: I'm a former lawyer (with plans to practice again), a speaker and trainer who writes seminars, a homeschool mom, I write columns, I produce videos, radio and television programs, and I sit on boards/facilitate a commission in my city.

You guessed it. My clutter problem is paper, files and books. What you see here is a GOAL.

I'm using the SHED process (by Julie Morgenstern) to:

Separate the treasures
Heave the rest

Daphne Mallory's Family Business To-Do List for 12/24/14

TedTalk would be an amazing platform to spread the idea of family business worldwide. It's non-negotiable to do everything I can to present the importance of this, it's implication on worldwide poverty and more. That's the main reason for this on my to-do list today. During the holidays, I'm proactively seeking business tasks that remind me that not everyone gets to enjoy the presents and festivities of Christmas. So many in my own country, Liberia are suffering from disease and poverty. It's my responsibility as a family business owner to create a positive change for my own family and for others who have not had access or the same opportunities as I have had.

Daphne Mallory's To-Do List for 12/23/14

Rotary International does amazing work in communities around the world. One of the reasons I became a Rotarian was to help build and strengthen my community. (Twin Falls, Idaho) and communities in my homeland (Liberia). I'm hoping that my Rotary (The Twin Falls Club) will support the global grant initiative in Liberia that I'm working on, initiated by a Rotary club in Liberia.

Are You Providing Entrepreneur Education for Your Kids?

Entrepreneurship education will set your children apart in life and in business. Academics has its place, but you won't be ready to compete in the marketplace if you put all your eggs in that basket. I homeschool my four children, and entrepreneurship is top priority. When done right, all of the other subjects are a natural fit. As part of  my life's work in this area of family business, I am going to produce and model project-based entrepreneurship education for families who want to create wealth and build legacy. All of the life, leadership, business and community building skills that your kids will learn can prepare them for any future they desire. Whether they want to attend or graduate from an Ivy League Institution like I did, or pioneer a new industry, entrepreneurship education is sure to propel your kids to top in their communities and field.

500 Words Mindset Project - Trustor

Here are my answers (Don't peek until you complete yours with your family!):

Definition (from a legal article I wrote a few years back)A trustor, also called a "grantor," "settler," or "creator," is the person who creates a trust. This person grants real property, personal property, money, and gifts to the beneficiaries in the trust.

Example: Eli ... Hannah entrusted her son, her most precious treasure, to Eli to care for and maintain until he grew up to become a power prophet. If you're not familiar with the story, watch this:

List action steps/projects:
  1. Find a trustor for our family, with global offices because we're building an international company.
  2. Sabya (15) : Learn to save, care for and maintain two gold coins.
  3. Samuel (7):  Learn to save, care for and maintain items in our family time capsule (will share this project soon.)
  4. Grace  (3):  Help mom grow plants from seeds.
  5. James (4):   Help mom grow plants from seeds.

Daphne Mallory's To-Do List for 12/22/2014

Family business is tough. When possible, don't go it alone. Find a community of like-minded individuals who are aspiring founders, current founders or next generation family business owners. That's why I offered a free 14 day support group to help encourage you, and I'm happy to be working with 62 men from all around the world.

I decided to pursue certification as a strategy to visit other cities where I can speak on family business. You know the saying...a prophet is not welcomed in his own country...well...it's true lol!

Daphne Mallory's Family Business To-Do List for 12/19/2014

Working on a global grant project is not directly related to my business, but it falls in line with my family's mission: to help eradicate poverty through family business development. It's also a great way to build additional skills and to grow internationally. What opportunities do you have in your community and beyond to expand your skills, network and location?

Daphne Mallory's Family Business To-Do List for 12/18/2014

Contacting past clients is a great way to wrap up the year. They can be a great resource for 2015, in terms of referrals, business growth ideas, additional business and more. They might even invite you to a social event. Don't end the year without contacting them at least once.

Daphne Mallory's Family Business To-Do List for 12/17/14

Videos are a great way to showcase your expertise and mentor your market. I love to create videos where I can share ideas and simplify complex matters. Making them are much easier than you think. The ones I'm creating today are all done on my smartphone and I'll edit them using the YouTube video editor. There's no excuse. Make one quick video today, even if you share it only with your family.

I battle with disorganization on a daily basis. I am a mother of 4, I run a business, homeschool, sit on boards, volunteer...leaving me little time to get organized. However, I understand organizing my space, time and helps to clear my mind and strengthen me for the tasks I must execute every day, six days a week. Organizing my rolodex is just one more thing that I need to get done. I purposefully added this one so that you can hold me accountable. Here's what I'm going to do:

1. Categorize all of contacts into: clients, prospects, joint venture partners, community partners, mentors, training apprentices, meeting planners, CEOs, managers, civic partners, business owners, family business owners and others.
2. I hope to tie up lose ends before January 2015 and start the new year fresh.

How about you? Any tips for cleaning out your rolodex?

VIDEO: Avoid These Pitfalls with Your Citizens Committee

I am PRO citizens committees and I believe they are vital to Real Community development. However, you must avoid these two pitfalls if you want to achieve success and true representation. I tackle this head on at our council meeting where the City of Twin Falls Citizens Committee (which I was a part of) presented its recommendations and findings.

Daphne Mallory's Family Business To-Do List for 12/16/2014

Webinars are a great way to showcase your expertise. They can be difficult to market if you're just starting out. I like to partner with established organizations whenever possible so that I can concentrate on training rather than marketing and sales (for webinars). Are there colleges, community groups and organizations that can contract you to teach? It's one more marketing method for growing your family business.

Daphne Mallory's Family Business To Do List for 12/15/2014

Don't forget one of the great advantages of joining an association. Network, network, network. Serving together is an amazing opportunity to give back to your community. You're also there to build one another up. If there's a member who could be a great mentor or contact, it's okay to approach them about business.

VIDEO: Creative Play with Little Ones Prepares them for Family Business

Creativity and innovation is key to a thriving family business. So why not start young? Engage your kids in creative play and conversation. Plant seeds now for your next generation leaders. Grace joined me early in the morning to give me a chance to engage in some creative play. My teen daughter, Sabya, always camera ready, had the opportunity to film (and that's her creative play).

Entrepreneurship & Family Business: The Next Women's Movement

Women can be empowered by entrepreneurship and family business ownership, and can use it to be a vehicle for positive change in their families and communities. Entrepreneurship education should be the focus of women and organizations seeking to help lift women and children out of poverty. This is a small portion of my talk.

Daphne Mallory's Family Business To Do List for 12/11/2014

One option you have when growing your family business is to become a sub-contractor for an established organization. I want to train families and companies worldwide, and there's an established training organization that already has the marketing, connections and facilities in countries that I don't. Rather than try to build all of my training company from the ground up, I am choosing to become one of their certified trainers. In exchange they pay the travel and marketing expenses, and they (not me) worry about filing seats. All I have to do is show up and train.

Consider doing contract work until your family business gets off the ground.

Daphne Mallory's Family Business To Do List for 12/10/2014

If possible, schedule meetings one or two days a week. If you work from your home office, it helps to avoid running around everyday which zaps your energy. This method helps if you work with small children around.  You can arrange for a spouse, relative, or babysitter to watch the kids on those days while you participate in meetings.

Leave your questions in the comments. I'd be happy to answer them. What days do you schedule your meetings and appointments on?

Daphne Mallory's Family Business To Do List for 12/9/2014

Maximize social events during the Holiday season. Many people come alive at social events, and you don't want to miss that opportunity to connect. Don't slow down on contacting the media also. They are still writing and producing stories this month. While everyone else is slowing down, you need to step it up.

Leave your questions in the comments. I'd be happy to answer them.

Meeting planners are crucial to any speaker. They book the speakers and trainers for events, and that's how our revenue is made. A key part of my strategy is to build relationships with them, so that they understand the value I have to offer.

Daphne Mallory's Family Business To-Do List for 12/01/2014

My responsibility as a business owner is to help improve the quality of life for others in my community. It just so happens that the roundtable was great for networking too. That's an added benefit. Get engaged in the growth (or stop the decline) of your community. You're in business to create positive change for your family and community.
