Family Business Account from The Bible: Adam and Eve

It's easy to forget that this couple was once a great husband and wife team doing business together. They were stewards of God's garden. Before Adam and Eve sinned against God, they RULED. They took dominion over their surroundings. In today's business terms, they dominated their niche.

I've come to realize that before anything else in business, I'm a professional salesperson. I need to sell ideas first, services second, products third. I will do my family, my clients and my community a disservice if I don't strive daily to dominate my niche. Selling allows me to serve and when I dominate my niche, I can cultivate it with the thoughts, ideas, services and products that can best serve and elevate those within.

What about you? What niche are you called to dominate?

Daphne Mallory's Family Business for To-Do Lists for 1/23/2015

It's important to promote the work you do in social media and other online outlets. Don't rely on the popularity of any platform solely. You have to do the work of marketing yourself. It's a great way to remain valuable to the sites you write or create videos for, or to maintain a high following.

Daphne Mallory's To-Do List for 1/22/2015

I'm playing with the model of having as many face to face meetings as possible on Wednesdays. The trick is to check-in between meeting with the kids, play...and oh...did I mention I homeschool? I do believe it's time to find a reliable part-time babysitter. I would love a personal assistant who could also assist with babysitting duty. How do you make it work in your family?  Any tips for hiring help? Share below.

Family Business Accounts From the Bible Aquilla and Priscilla

This couple was beloved by the Apostle Paul as well as their community. They opened their home for church and fellowship. They were relentless servants to the work of building God's Kingdom. Their marriage did not suffer, but instead, it flourished.

I'm a hermit by nature. What I'm challenged to do going forward based on Aquilla and Priscilla's account, is to be more open. I need to share my life more, and not just on social media platforms. I will try to open my home for hospitality at least once a month to start.

How about you? What's your confession? How will you change?

Daphne Mallory's Family Business To-Do List for 1/5/2015

It's here...2015. Mondays (by default) have become major writing days for me. It's important for me to market my ideas and showcase my system for starting a family business. Writing helps me to do that in a credible way.

Figure out what activity establishes you as the go-to or expert in your market and do it. Do it often. Do it right. Eventually, you'll dominate your niche.

What activity is vital to making you credible in your market? Share in the comments.

Family Business Accounts From the Bible Noah

The account of Noah and his family is quite convicting. I'm a serial entrepreneur and I've failed in business. I don't stick around longer than 30 days, 6 months, or 1 - 2 years on the same project...let alone 120 years. Faithfulness to see projects through to the end is very difficult for me. I'm a starter...a visionary...all code for a non-finisher.

One of my goals for the next 5 years is to work on and finish long term projects. This will truly exercise my brain, develop my entrepreneurship skills, grow my business and enable the multi-generational thinking I yearn for.

How about you? What can you learn from Noah? Share in the comments.

3 Key Agreements Every Family Business Needs in Writing

Family business law is not family law. The latter deals with divorce, child custody, alimony and related issues. Family business law deals with starting, growing and transferring your business. The tricky part is, there isn’t a body of law called “family business law” (although I hope to change that). It’s an intersection of many practice areas, including business law, trusts and estates, property law, securities, non-profit law (ex: for family foundations) and yes, even family law. When looking at legal agreements, you have to borrow from these practice areas and apply them to your family business.
